NEIGHBOURHOOD

Note 3

A HISTORICAL AND CONTEMPORARY DISTRICT

Nestled in a quiet neighbourhood in SoHo, Tung Street lies at the heart of a unique district with a rich history set within the vibrancy of a modern city.

Anchoring one end of Hollywood Road and within a short stroll of Tung Street is Tai Kwun, the old Central Police Station compound now lovingly restored to a complex housing a collection of art galleries and restaurants. Also along Hollywood Road is PMQ, a historical building that used to be the Police Married Quarters and now been revived as a hub for local creativity and design.

Note 3

ART AND CULTURE

The area is in the middle of a vibrant scene of small boutique galleries with major international galleries nearby in Central. Also next to Tung Street is Hollywood Road, which for generations has been a major hub for Chinese antique dealers. To add vibrancy and character to the area, a selection of international street artists have decorated some streets in the area with colourful murals.

Note 3

WORK LIFE, HOME LIFE

The Tung Street area is characterised by a leafy and pedestrian vibe that stands in contrast with the hustle and bustle of the city. The neighbourhood contains a number of parks that provide a place of calm despite being in the middle of Hong Kong Island. Tung Street is also a short walk from Central where the extensive MTR and bus network will connect you to all corners of the city. If time allows, one can choose a more leisurely way of travelling by choosing the Star Ferry or tram.
